After typically spending far too much money this summer, it comes as no surprise that the road to recovery was long and bleak. The life of a record collector put on hold and the Asda-runs becoming ever more financially painful. However, finally after a few weeks of hard graft and a pay check firmly in, it’s finally time to get back to frittering cash away on beautiful records.
From transfixing jazz releases on 2000Black to irresistibly groovy LP’s from Eddie C, this week we head down the electronic music route as festival season comes to a close and producers turn to the studio for the winter months to come. We’ve already got some exciting releases to share with you!
Kaidi Tatham - The Extrovert City (2000Black)
Dego signs yet another killer EP with his latest imprint release coming from Kaidi Tatham. The Extrovert City is everything you’d expect from a 2000Black release; jazz injected and breakbeat ridden. Truly melodic, this set of 3 tracks all have their own unique identity developing and focusing in on different jazz based forms.
If you haven’t already, this is well worth a space in your collection. Act quick, Bandcamp are totally out of stock, although Phonica still have a few going. As we speak mine’s in the basket, who knows how many are left?!

The Invisible - Life’s Dancers (Floating Points Remix) (Ninja Tune)
We drop down tempo for this orchestral edit from the main man himself Floating Points. After his recent ventures into live orchestral performances, it’s only right that Sam Shepherd releases an edit that fits the moment. Moody, reflective and authentic sounding, this remix is for those hungover days in bed with its sincere, arpeggiated violin runs and emotionally ambient chordal sections.
Available on Phonica records website, grab it HERE.
Mushroom House EP 2 - Munk, Auntie Flo & More (Toytonics)
Auntie Flo and Munk are back appearing on Toytonics’ latest EP: Mushroom House. While Munk and guests bring in some heavier numbers on this one, Auntie Flo drops in something more laid back emphasising the use of authentic african drums and what almost sounds like a Mbira.
Our favourite from this EP has to be Munk’s incredibly funky Nigerian Jam for its groovy dance floor under tones complemented with tradition Kuti style trumpet sections and Onyeabour sounding synth melodies…check it out below!

Constraints of Time Travel - Chaos in the CBD (Phantom Melodies) (REPRESS)
While this has been out since last November, this sell out EP has only just seen a repress in the past few days and we’re already struggling to find a copy anywhere. Chaos in the CBD have built a name for themselves through the Peckham label Rhythm Section. Known for their thumping jazz injected house numbers, the duo never fail to disappoint and this is certainly no exception. Top track for us has to be Phantom Melodies. Be sure to check out their latest release Invisible Spectrum here.

The Bells LP - Kornel Kovaks (Studio Barnhus)
After some incredible records from Kornel Kovaks including the jagged edge, sample heavy Pantalon and the more ambient and dreamy Szikra, he’s finally out with a 10 track LP. Deceptively kicking things off with a somewhat recognisable but adapted reprise of Szikra the LP moves sharply into the heavier sides of his dance music productions.
The diversity of this electronic LP is certainly present with his signature adoption of samples in a disjointed manner ringing through on all tracks. Certainly worth the listen, however in our opinion not worth the purchase. Decide for yourself below…

On The Shore - Eddie C (Endless Flight)
Eddie C comes back with a follow up to the successful Country City Country EP produced while on the road travelling by motorbike across a number of countries. This down-tempo, funked-up LP showcases a mixture of house, cosmic disco and anything resembling a groove. Quirky ‘melodic accidents’ certainly make this release all the better.
The noticeable increase in pace throughout the album gives us the indication that this is certainly a full length listener and not a singles album. The continuous adaptation of funk rhythms and bouncy melodies as the rate increase before dropping back into a cool hip hop instrumental section mean this LP has won its place on our purchase list. Favourite track has to be Take Me (Extended Mareh Vacation Mix)!
