Collective Conscience , a session series by Nirvana Principle

The series takes its name from a theory by French sociologist Emile Durkheim. Its a concept that speaks about the set of shared ideas, beliefs and moral attitudes which act as a unifying force within society.

The series uses music and poetry to shed light on the darker elements of our society, and hopefully inspire change through awareness.

The first episode is on the plight of refugees and immigrants around the world, from Indonesia to Lagos, the shores of Greece to the Bay of Bengal. We use W.H. Auden’s poem “Refugee Blues” to punctuate the perennial tragedy of leaving one’s homeland only to find a new kind of suffering awaiting them at their alien destination.

Nirvana Principle are a UK-based Pakistani psychiatrist, DJ and electronic musician. They are a recently inducted member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. They use creative experiences and philanthropic projects to merge their dual passions for improving society and finding a place in the world.
