Blues de l’océan Indien, is a guest show exploring music from the Mascerene Islands of Mauritius and Reunion, and the greater Indian Ocean.

Sega and Maloya music from the islands of Mauritius and Reunion have a distinct sound characterised by unique percussive rhythms and melodic vocals. This music originated between the 17th and 19th centuries by slaves brought from West Africa, Mozambique, Zanzibar and Madagascar. Sega music is often compared to Blues music from the Americas and is sometimes referred to as ‘the Blues of the Indian Ocean’.

Over time, music from this region has evolved with the introduction of electric instruments and influence from western music. This has resulted in a truly diverse collection of music that will make anyone move!
