Lockdown Live Lounge: KIOKO & Mary Miller

Lockdown Live Lounge returns with two more concerts from one home to another! We may still be (2 metres) apart, but now more than ever we need to connect with our online communities to bring us together. We hope to do just that this week, with some more fresh talent from around the globe.

Lockdown Live Lounge invites our favourite artists, local and afar, to live-stream a mini gig from their homes. Every Monday and Thursday at 2pm give your ears and eyes a little hug from the freshest talent across the UK. An intimate experience direct from living room to living room, we invite you to sink into our ‘Lockdown Live Lounge’, but from the comfort of your own home. You don’t even have to get dressed to go out!

This week, we're super excited to welcome Birmingham-based reggae outfit, KIOKO! Known for their infectious grooves and exhilarating live performances, this seven-piece are on the rise.

KIOKO are heavily influenced by Jamaican and Caribbean music, as well as the sounds of their multicultural heritage, with a use of close harmonies and hard riddims. Matched with an electric stage presence that captivates audiences, their performances will last long in your memories!

Having performed with a diverse array of acts including Dub Pistols, UB40, Tinie Tempah and The Wailers to name just a few, KIOKO have a wealth of touring experience on stages both big and small, old and new. For the live session, frontman Matt will be treating us to a special solo set. Be sure to tune in and be part of the movement. Welcome to the tribe!

Following this is enigmatic singer, songwriter and producer Mary Miller! Influenced by artists such as J Dilla and Dr. Dre, Mary started producing from an early age. Inspired by the slick production of modern pop and hip-hop artists, she learnt how to sample and manipulate classic instruments to create something entirely new. Also heavily inspired by orchestral film music and the cinematic sound of the 40s and 50s, she sews vintage patterns and modern landscapes together to craft dreamy, nostalgic soundscapes.

Prior to releasing music, within a year of playing gigs across Liverpool Mary was awarded a place on PRS’ ‘Rebalance’ Programme, as well earning her place on SORT Rehearsal Room's Development Deal and as one of LIMF Academy's 'Top 3 Most Ready Artists'. Her first release 'I Found Heaven' garnered support from the likes of NME, The Line of Best Fit and BBC Introducing, which saw her go on to play a wide variety of festivals including The Great Escape, Bushstock Festival and Off The Record. Mary has also supported an impressive handful of artists including Laurel, She Drew The Gun and Grace Carter. We're excited for what is sure to be a magical performance from this electronic songstress.

Join us on our Facebook page for KIOKO on Monday 3rd August, 2pm and for Mary Miller on Thursday 6th August, 2pm.
